NEW HAVEN, CT — State Capitol Police are investigating following a social media threat of physical harm was may have been made against state Sen. Gary Winfield (D-New Haven), The Connecticut Post reported. The post was a response on Facebook to state Sen. Rob Sampson (R-Wolcott), who denied attempting to inflame followers.

The potential threat was made in connection to Winfield's support of last year's controversial police accountability law, according to The Connecticut Post. Sampson wrote a post opposing the law and a user made a response vowing to "take justice in our own hands. Hopefully the sanitation system will pick up the carcass."

It's unclear why the threat was deemed to be specifically against Winfield.
