Organizer William Frucht notes that the show’s theme, while never stated, emerged naturally. “Each of us, in our own way, is reacting to the difficult times we live in: the pandemic, our economic uncertainty, our political divisions, and the disruption these have brought to our lives. Some responded by looking closely at the changed world around us; others by simply creating something wonderful, a respite for the mind.” With work from sixteen artists presenting work in photography, painting, sculpture, monoprints, fiber, and mixed media — this is sure to be a lively event.

“City Gallery has participated in CWOS for many years,” Frucht explains. “It’s a big event for the New Haven art community and we’re always excited to be a part of it.” Because of COVID restrictions, there will not be an Opening Reception or formal events during CWOS weekend, but visitors can expect to meet a rotating cast of member artists during the extended show hours on October 17 and 18, and they are always invited to make appointments with individual artists. For a preview of the event, the virtual gallery at cwos.viewingrooms.com will open its doors on October 1.

The CWOS group show is free and open to the public. City Gallery is located at 994 State Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Modified regular gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday, 2PM - 4pm or by appointment. Number of visitors limited to 6 at a time. Masks must be worn.
