Former Boxing Champion From New Haven Opening Gym

HAMDEN, CT — Former world lightweight boxing champion Chad Dawson is opening a new gym in Hamden next week, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports Dawson, who grew up in New Haven and began boxing at 8 years old and studied under Brian Clark at Ring One gym, will celebrate the opening of Chad Dawson’s Championship Breed Boxing — and his birthday — on July 13. The new gym is located at 295 Treadwell Street in Hamden.

While he’s ready to pass on the lessons he’s learned, Dawson, who will turn 36 next week, told the Register he may not be done with boxing and he’s made tentative steps toward fighting again in the fall.
