“We highly recommend following heat preparedness guidelines and safety tips to keep your family safe,” New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said. “Some steps to follow are; find air conditioning or fans for cooling, avoid strenuous activities, wear light clothing, check on family members and neighbors, drink plenty of fluids, and never leave people or pets in a closed car. Call 911 for any heat related emergency. Heatwaves can produce many heat related health issues, and this can happen quickly to those with underlying medical conditions, elderly, children, and pets too! Stay hydrated and in cooler locations when possible.”
