Karen DuBois-Walton Makes It Official: She's Running For Mayor

NEW HAVEN, CT —Karen DuBois-Walton is running.

DuBois-Walton, who loves in Fair Haven, is a Yale University and Boston University graduate, who has spent two decades as a non-profit program manager with and public policy expertise, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Currently president of Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of New Haven, she spent many years in City Hall as a former chief of staff and chief administrative officer. In the late '90s, she was the director of managed care for the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

"For the past 14 years, Karen’s led Elm City Communities/the Housing Authority of New Haven through rapid transformation, rebuilding almost the entire housing portfolio, creating new programs at the intersection of housing and education, entrepreneurship, and job training, and building pathways to opportunity for her residents," her campaign website reads.

In her announcement Monday morning on her campaign Facebook page, DuBois-Walker wrote that she's running for office, "because our city is in need of strong leadership."

"As our city grapples with shocking spikes in crime and gun violence, dissension on our Board of Education, and a true affordable housing crisis, New Haven needs leadership that can genuinely solve those problems," she wrote, adding her campaign, "Aims to build a movement, for a new vision of what New Haven can be."

The issues she addresses include community safety, housing and neighborhood development, inclusive economic growth, education and youth services, climate change and environmental hazards, and fiscal health.
