Long Wharf Theatre's New Year is Coming
The new year will include an incredible new addition to the Long Wharf Theatre's leadership team

The holidays are in full swing this week, and at Long Wharf Theatre we are stepping away from the stage to safely spend time with our friends and family. This week will be full of baking, board games, and banter for members of our staff and board. We will return to the theatre on January 4 smiling because there’s one thing that we know for sure about 2021: it’s a year where we’ll create groundbreaking theatre for and with our community.
Our new year will include an incredible new addition to our leadership team with the joining of Aleta Staton, our new Learning & Community Organizing Director. Staton is an established arts leader in Greater New Haven and beyond, having held administrative positions at Arts4Learning Connecticut, Artist’s Collective in Hartford, Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown, ACES Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven, Arts Council of Greater New Haven, as well as New Haven Public Schools. Artistic Director Jacob G. Padrón speaks for our theatre when he shares “To say it's an honor that she will join Long Wharf Theatre to lead our work in community is an understatement. We are overjoyed. She will be instrumental in shaping our future and launching us into a new era for all to partake in. She understands deeply the transformative power of storytelling."
Thank you to all you joined our December edition of Play Club! We so enjoyed discussing August Wilson’s masterpiece Fences with you. If you didn’t catch the captivating photos from our production of Fences under the direction of Phylicia Rashad during our 2013/14 season, check out the album now. We’ll announce what we’ll be reading on January this New Year’s Day so stay tuned so that you can start the year off with connection, comradery, and Play Club!

We are excited to announce that we will be publishing Kaleidoscope, our inaugural literary and arts journal in January. Kaleidoscope invites us to see our world without limitations and elevates the printed page as a stage during a time when gathering in a playhouse is still out of reach. Long Wharf Theatre members will receive a printed copy of Kaleidoscope, and all will receive digital access to this journal that lifts up artistic responses to our world.

Check out our illustrated series A Guide to Holidaying at Home: How to Bake, Make and Celebrate Like a Dramaturge. And if you’re in need of a belated gift to a loved one, we’ve got you covered. When you give the gift of Long Wharf Theatre membership, you give a special someone full-access to our programming and support theatre-making in our community. Your support has made all the difference this year and we are honored to enter the new year with a community as resilient, loyal, and thoughtful as ours.
