NEW HAVEN, CT —At sunrise Friday, a man was struck by a car on Whalley Avenue between Ramsdell and Anthony streets. By late afternoon, police reported the man had died from the injuries he sustained. Police have not identified him.
New Haven police spokesperson officer Scott Shumway said that 911 callers reported a pedestrian was struck while crossing Whalley Avenue at the intersection with Ramsdell Street. Police said a 2008 Ford Taurus was traveling east on Whalley and hit the man, who was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital by the New Haven Fire Department. He was initially listed as being in critical condition. The driver of the Taurus stayed on the scene, police said, but did not identify the driver or say whether charges are pending.
For four hours, that section of Whalley Avenue was closed and the police department’s Accident Reconstruction Team was still on the scene after 1 p.m. Friday "conducting a full investigation," police said.
