Mayor To Celebrate 1st Day of Youth Summer Camp at Lighthouse Pt

Summer camps in New Haven begin Monday, with 300 enrolled in 8 camps, with Lighthouse Point Park is home to one of the city's largest.

NEW HAVEN, CT —Monday Mayor Justin Elicker, along with Youth and Recreation Director Gwendolyn Busch Williams, will hold a media event at Lighthouse Point Park highlighting the beginning of summer youth camps in New Haven.

Lighthouse Point Park is home to one of the city’s largest camps, and beginning Monday will play host to kids between the ages of 5 and 13.

Earlier this year, Elicker announced his ‘Summer Reset’ initiative – part of which was $1.5 million in American Rescue Plan funding for increased summer youth engagement. Extended summer camps and counselor-in-training programs are central components of the expanded youth engagement happening throughout the city.

Elicker and Williams will discuss the eight camps beginning on Monday, which combined have more than 300 New Haven young people enrolled; and they will talk about how the summer reset program is impacting this summer’s youth engagement efforts.
