Memorials, Donations Pour In For Family Of New Haven Firefighter

New Haven firefighter Ricardo Torres, Jr. died May 12 while battling a fire on Valley Street. He and his wife Erica Martinez are parents of young son Oliver with Crew due to be born in August.
The outpouring of support for Torres' family includes a GoFundMe campaign created the day he died by Patrick McGovern. To date, the appeal has more than $250,000 in pledged donations to help support his wife and sons.

And a t-shirt and decal, designed by member of his fire house, are being sold to also support his family.

Torres was a member of Engine Company 6, Truck Company 4 and Emergency Company 3. The firehouse on Goffe Street, firefighters said, is the "busiest" in the city. It primarily serves Dixwell, Newhallville, and parts of downtown and Dwight neighborhoods.
Torres' obituary notes that memorial contributions may be made in his name to National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Torres' funeral will be held Thursday at St. Mary Church in New Haven and he will be buried with fire department honors in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, according to his obituary from Iovanne Funeral Home.
