New Grocer Opens At Site Of Former Iconic New Haven Store
The owners of the former Ferraro's Market site have plans to stay the course.
NEW HAVEN, CT — The spot of the iconic Ferraro's Market was only vacant for a short time after the grocer closed up shop to relocate the business to North Haven. Two brothers from Brooklyn, NY, have opened a new grocery store at the 664 Grand Ave. building, The New Haven Register reported.
Orlando and Fernando Cepeda opened Meat King Farms this week. Ferraro's previously occupied the space for more than 60 years.
The new owners have kept the Ferraro's spirit alive, offering fresh seafood and vegetables, bread and baked goods, along with plenty of meat. They have also kept on all 50-plus of the store's employees, according to The New Haven Register. They do have plans to renovate the space.

"It has been a goal of mine to bring a supermarket into that side of our town to offer our residents another shopping option," he told Patch.
Sal Ferraro started the business in 1952 as Mohawk Market on State Street in New Haven before moving in the 1970s to its current location at 664 Grand Ave.
Co-owner Peter Ferraro told the Independent that a desire to downsize from the market's current 20,000-square-foot space was a driving factor in the decision to move.
