New Haven to Host Tree Lighting Ceremony

Mayor Toni Harp invites the community to the tree-lighting ceremony that will kick-off holiday events on Thursday, December 1.

From the City of New Haven: Mayor Toni N. Harp invites city residents and those from throughout the region to Thursday evening’s tree-lighting ceremony on the New Haven Green. Special features that evening include choral music performed by students and other groups, loops around the Green in horse-drawn carriages, carnival rides, and a chance to visit with Santa Claus.

Mayor Harp said Thursday’s festivities begin at dusk and extend into the evening. Thursday’s extravaganza will then continue on three consecutive Saturday afternoons, beginning December 3.

This year a new feature was added to coincide with the annual tree-lighting festivities. A first-ever holiday bazaar will be held in the first-floor atrium of City Hall, at which about 30 vendors and artisans, all of them LOCAL small businesses, will showcase special holiday merchandise, much of it locally produced.

All those who attend the tree-lighting and enjoy the special holiday events on the Green are encouraged to visit the Holiday Bazaar at City Hall and make that a part of Thursday’s memorable evening.

A number of charitable organizations will have a presence at Thursday’s event as well. Toys for Tots, the Connecticut Food Bank, and Easter Seals/Goodwill Industries have signed on with area sponsors, who will promote the good work of these organizations along with the need for charitable contributions.
