New Haven Man, 28, Pleads Guilty On Federal Gun Charge: Feds
Erick E. Gomez, Jr., who ran from a car crash, is facing state charges, too, after cops found heroin, crack and a loaded pistol in the car.
NEW HAVEN, CT —Erick E. Gomez, Jr., 28, of New Haven pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to having a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, the Connecticut Acting U.S. Attorney said.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on April 3, 2020, Gomez fled from his car after he was involved in a car accident in Woodbridge, according to a release from federal prosecutors. A search of the car revealed a loaded .380 semi-automatic pistol, 15 baggies of crack cocaine and 12 folds of heroin and fentanyl, prosecutors said. Gomez was charged with state offenses stemming from this incident and was released on bond. On July 31, 2020, Gomez was arrested on related federal charges. At the time of his arrest he possessed quantities of crack cocaine, heroin/fentanyl and methamphetamine.
He's scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 2, and faces a mandatory minimum five years in federal prison. He's been held since his federal arrest.
