New Haven Man, 34, Shot, Killed On Sherman Parkway Identified
Police said the man who was fatally shot on May 26 is father of two daughters, Adrian Barwise.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The 34-year-old New Haven man shot and killed on Sherman Parkway last month was identified by police as Adrian Barwise, police said Thursday.
On May 26, at around 8:30 p.m., police found Barwise fatally shot on the roadway near the intersection of Munson Street. Police said Barwise was pronounced dead by paramedics. A 28-year-old New Haven man stayed on the scene, police spokesperson officer Scott Shumway said and "identified himself as being involved in the incident."
The New Haven Independent had reported at the time that the man said that he was defending himself from a knife attack with a legally-owned gun.

Police had originally reported that Barwise was from West Haven. Shumway said that the "investigation is on-going and this is the updated information from investigators."
It was the 13th homicide in the city since the beginning of the year.

A GoFundMe was created last week for Barwise's family.
The appeal for donations reads: "Adrian was shot and killed last night in his home on Sherman ave. He leaves behind his 2 daughters whom he loved unconditionally. So many family and friends from New York, New Haven, Jamaica, and the list goes on. He leaves behind his sister, brother, mother, grandmother, aunties, and uncles. Adrian was a loyal friend if he called you his sis or brother just know he would be there for you no matter the obstacles. Adrian was always eager to jump to his friends and family defense he was finally on the right track just for his life to be cut short. He’ll never see his girls graduate high school, college, have boyfriends or even get married. These girls were robbed of their father his only sister robbed of her brother a mother robbed of her son. Adrian you were loved by many and will truly be missed by all."
With a $10,000 goal, the GoFundMe has raised $890.
New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker and New Haven Police Chief Renee Dominguez held public meetings on the city's Violent Crime Reduction Strategy plan.
The initiatives include the shooting task force which partners with surrounding communities to share intelligence, and Project Longevity and Project Safe Neighborhoods, which Elicker said are "working to keep returning citizens out of trouble."
"We're also engaging in a full court press to get services to those most in need, particularly our re-entry population—which is why we opened our re-entry center earlier this year," he said.
