New Haven School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in New Haven is August 28. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The New Haven Public School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

August

• 8/23 - 8/25: Teacher’s Day Only
• 8/28: First Day of School

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)
• 9/18: Early Dismissal – Students Only
• 9/19: Open House, Meet the Teacher Night K-8
• 9/20: Open House, Meet the Teacher Night – High Schools
• 9/21: No School (Rosh Hashanah)

October

• 10/9: Columbus Day
• 10/23: Early Dismissal – Students Only
• 10/27: End of Marking Period

November

• 11/7: No School for Students (Teacher’s Day Only)
• 11/10: No School (Veterans Day)
• 11/15: Early Dismissal – Students Only, Parent Conference and Report Cards K-8
• 11/16: Parent Conference and Report Cards High Schools
• 11/22: Early Dismissal – Students and Staff
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving Recess)

December

• 12/22: Early Dismissal – Students and Staff
• 12/25 - 12/29: No School (Christmas Recess)

January

• 1/1: No School (New Year’s Day)
• 1/12: End of Marking Period
• 1/15: No School (M.L. King’s Birthday)
• 1/22: Early Dismissal – Students Only
• 1/31: Early Dismissal – Students Only, Parent Conference and Report Cards K-8

February

• 2/1: Parent Conference and Report Cards High Schools
• 2/16: Early Dismissal – Students and Staff
• 2/19 - 2/23: No School (February Recess)

March

• 3/29: End of Marking Period
• 3/30: No School (Good Friday)

April

• 4/13: Early Dismissal – Students and Staff
