​NHPD Officer Recruitment Outreach Campaign Begins

From the Office of the Chief of Police: The New Haven Police Department and the City’s Office of Human Resources are happy to announce the 2017 Police Officer Recruitment Outreach Campaign. The three week long application process will open and applications will be available online at wwwPoliceapp.com beginning June 5th, 2017. Applications must be completed and submitted online by June 23rd, 2017.

Physical agility testing is scheduled on July 8th & 9th. Those that have satisfied the agility testing component will be scheduled for the written examination on July 15th. Other testing components will be scheduled as needed.

Current and valid CHIP cards will be accepted in lieu of agility testing. Those performing the agility test MUST bring their medical waiver with them to the testing site. The waiver is found in the application packet on wwwPoliceapp.com.

The NHPD plans to distribute recruitment materials locally and recruit throughout the New Haven area. New Haven residents are encouraged to apply. Those living locally are our preferred candidates.

• Enthusiasm for hard and rewarding work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under stress.

Minimum Requirements Are:

• Must be twenty-one (21) years of age by October 1st, 2017.

• Must have excellent English verbal and written communication skills.

• Must have at least a high school diploma or GED, although additional education and work experience are strongly preferred.
• Must be a born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
• Must have no felony, Class A or B misdemeanor convictions, including convictions involving domestic violence.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a valid Connecticut license upon graduation from the academy.
• Must reside within 20 miles of New Haven upon graduation from the academy.
