Obituary: Milton Thomas E. Franklin Sr., 53, of New Haven

Milton, a former Hillhouse High School football standout, was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and friend to many.

NEW HAVEN, CT - (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home) Milton Thomas E Franklin Sr., of New Haven, CT, at the age of 53, departed his earthly body on Friday, February 5th of 2021 at the St. Raphael’s Campus Hospital.

Milton was born on July 25th of 1967 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Henry Millner and Margaret Franklin Jones-Beauchamp.

He moved to New Haven, CT in the summer of 1976 with his mother and siblings. He graduated from Hillhouse High school where he excelled in football.

He married Kenaya King-Franklin on October 9th of 2014.

Being of the Islamic faith, Milton was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and friend. Milton is so loved by so many because of the love and compassion he showed others.

He always had a better way of seeing and dealing with everything and would have no problem explaining how and why! He was always there to lend a helping hand or whisper words of wisdom, kindness and encouragement, and let’s not forget the hugs!

He was a big Teddy Bear and Gentle Giant with a STRONG LOVE for FAMILY!

He so loved being a devoted father, which he excelled at!

Brother Milton was truly a GREAT MAN!

Milton was predeceased in death by his parents, grandparents; Lynell & Dora Franklin Sr., and John Henry & Helen Millner, his Uncle Milton Lee Franklin and a nephew Amir J Chambers.

Milton leaves behind his wife Kenaya King-Franklin, three sons; Milton T Franklin Jr., Auston J Franklin, Almir S Franklin and one daughter LaDetra Cohen, three brothers; Robert E (Mia) Franklin, Alvin L (Theresa) Franklin Sr., Willis Williams and two sisters: Lillie Franklin Chambers, Dorene A (Ronald) Massey, nephews; Alvin (Taisha) Franklin Jr., Davon J Millner, Jaylen Williams, nieces; Adair Franklin-Rivera, Shante M Franklin, Ronyea M Massey, Laura M Chambers, Najila M Chambers, Nailah N Franklin, Regina F Chambers, Kayla Williams, Jayda Williams, Jashzara J Chambers, Uncle Lynell Franklin, and Aunts; Ann Swaine, Dorene Terry, Belinda Franklin, Georgetta Finney, Danise Millner, Edithmae Johnson, two great nephews and two great nieces and a host of cousins, relatives, friends and ex-wife Monica Moye.

Milton is and will be sincerely missed.

A celebration of Milton's life will be held on on Saturday February 20, 2021 at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden at 9am.

Viewing in the funeral home from 8am-9am. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
