Obituary: Naomi L. (Suppy) Joyner, 79, of New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT - (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home) Naomi L. (Suppy) Joyner departed this life on Friday, March 26, 2021 at The Hospital of St. Raphael.

She was born May 27, 1941 in Greene, NC to Lillian Wilkes Edwards and the late Johnnie Edwards. She was employed by U.S. Repeating Arms (Winchester Arms), the U.S. Census Bureau and the United States Postal Service.

She is survived by her nine children: Dallas Anderson of Ft. Lauderdale FL, Donna (Cathy) Gailliard-Evans (Edwards) of Staten Island NY, Cedric Edwards of Griswold CT, John Edwards, Jeanette Edwards, Vicki Joyner, Stephen Joyner, Selma Joyner and Clinton Edwards of New Haven CT. Ten grandchildren: Monet Morrison, Clinton Turner, Stephen Joyner Jr., Whitney Edwards, Jasmine Richardson, Isaiah Richardson, Imani Richardson, Janna Donnette Ashley, Chanel Edwards, Garvey Bailey.

Seven great grandchildren: Lamar Alston, Alonna Alston, Jenavieve Edwards, Jordan Gilmore Jr, Javari Gilmore, Cashmere Turner. Three step grandchildren Travis, Michelle and Chenelle.

She also leaves her two brothers, Hugh Edwards (Pat) and Reverend Calvin Edwards (Doris) of New Haven and eight sisters, Mildred Edwards, Lillian Blount (Robert), Martha Huckabey (Bruce) of Hamden, Velma Bouie White (Cornelius), and Ellen Ruth Jones of Kinston, NC, Annie Muhammad of New Haven and Helen (Fabulous) Zackery of Bridgeport. 34 nephews and nieces, 58 great nephews and nieces and 11 great-great nephews and nieces.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday April 5, 2021 at Hamden Memorial Cl Funeral Home 1300 Dixwell Ave Hamden CT, Viewing will be from 10am-11am, services from 11am – 12pm.
