We All Scream: New Gourmet Ice Cream Shop to Open in New Haven
Flavors include Bourbon Breakfast, Mexican Chocolate Churro, and Vietnamese Coffee, among others.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Better desserts through science is not the motto of Milkcraft, but it might as well be.
The small batch ice cream maker, opening a new location at 280 Crown Street, uses liquid nitrogen to ensure "the smoothest texture possible" for their chilly confections, according to their website.
The opening of the New Haven outlet marks the third anniversary for the brand, and its third location in the state. Milkcraft also has operations in Fairfield and West Hartford.

Milkcraft's flavors are as inventive as their process. They include Strawberry Balsamic, Mexican Chocolate Churro, and Creameebun®, which consists of a freshly-baked glazed doughnut stuffed with ice cream and hot sealed.
For those who enjoy a little breakfast cereal with their ice cream, there is Vietnamese Coffee, which consists of cold brew coffee, condensed milk, chickory, and steeped coffee beans which may be ordered with Coco Puffs; or Milk and Cereal, vanilla ice cream with Fruitee O's, Coco Puffs or Frosted Flakes.

Milkcraft even offers a (very slightly) alcoholic option, Bourbon Breakfast, which includes Madagascar vanilla cream, corn flakes, and a touch of Whistle Pig bourbon.
To be sure, their menu includes classic vanilla, chocolate and strawberry — flavors that the confectioner's website says are "always available for crybabies." And because it's 2019, gluten-free and vegan options are also offered.
The company's signature product is its Bubblecone®, a made-to-order Hong Kong waffle formed into a cone for the ice cream. Also known as gai daan zai (“little eggs” in Cantonese), bubble waffles or egg cakes, Hong Kong waffles resemble nothing less than a waffle in bubble-wrap form. Milkcraft bakes theirs using a proprietary recipe.

Knowing southwestern Connecticut's passion for everything food truck-related, Milkcraft has launched "The Milktruck," a mobile version of their sweet shoppe. Party planners and event caterers can book the vehicle and its staff online.
Milkcraft's New Haven location is scheduled to open up in the spring.
