Free Revolutionary War Encampment in NL on Saturday

Travel back in time with the Nathan Hale Ancient Fife & Drum Corps at the Hempsted Houses.

The Hempsted Houses will host a free Revolutionary War encampment and family activities this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The military encampment will reenact the typical daily activities of Connecticut regiments. The grounds will be busy with soldiers and officers working in and around their tents, as well as women preparing the camp dinner and tending to their children.

The afternoon will include tactical demonstrations of period weapons, such as drilling, musket firing and camp cooking. Musicians will parade with fifes and drums. Children can make corn husk dolls, march with the soldiers, and see how to prepare the cannon.

The Hempsted Houses are at 11 Hempstead St. in New London; the event is sponsored by the Chester Kitchings Family Foundation. More information.
