GOP 2nd District Candidate Charged In Domestic Assault: Cops
The state Republican Party tweeted Tom Gilmer of Madison was arrested and due to the "severity of accusations" has withdrawn from the race.

MADISON, CT — The state GOP announced via a tweet that Tom Gilmer, the Republican vying for the Second District Congressional seat in Tuesday's state Presidential Primary Election was arrested Monday night.
According to the state party, the "severity of the accusations" has led him to withdraw from the race to oust longtime Congressman Joe Courtney.
Gilmer was charged in connection with a domestic assault in Wethersfield. Police there said that with the help of Madison Police, Monday night Gilmer was arrested and per the warrant, was charged with second-degree strangulation 2and first-degree unlawful restraint. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is due in court in New Britain today.

Gilmer's campaign's website and Facebook page have been removed.

In a Hartford Courant report, Gilmer released a statement accusing Anderson of “slinging mud."
The paper reported Gilmer as saying,“Now I find myself in a position where I must put my family and our shared Republican values before my own interests. I cannot in good conscience move forward in this campaign while I am simultaneously forced to clear my name. And clear my name I will.”

The Courant reported that Republican Party Chairman J.R. Romano said,"Anderson told him in April or May that there was a video of the fight, which the party chairman told Anderson to turn over to police."
Second Congressional District Candidate Tom Gilmer was arrested late last night. With the severity of the accusations Mr. Gilmer has ended his campaign.
