Mitchell College Celebrates Dr. Seuss's Birthday With Cat in the Hat Ball

The event is open to the public and free with a donation of one new children's book or $5 per family.

Mitchell College’s Education Department is hosting its 15th Annual Cat in the Hat Ball, a family celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, on Saturday, February 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Clarke and Weller Centers.

The snow date is Sunday, February 28. The event is open to the public and free with a donation of one new children’s book or $5 per family. All books from the event will be donated to local schools and early childcare centers.

The Cat in the Hat Ball is full of fun activities such as children’s games, crafts, music, and story times in English and Spanish. Music will be provided by folk musician Ted Phillips and Q105 Radio, and professional hula hoop dancer Judi Ann Jones will perform.

Local authors join in the fun, sharing their books with young readers. A highlight of the day will be a reading and book signing by Tish Rabe, the best-selling author of “The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library,” a series of rhyming science books for early readers. Authors Shelia Murphy Adams, Lauryn Alyssa Wendus, Deb Ciofi and Samuel Baez will read their stories throughout the day.

Guests of the Ball are encouraged to wear fun hats, especially a striped stove pipe hat like the one featured in “The Cat in the Hat.”
