New London Receives Grant For Firefighting Training

NEW LONDON, CT — Mayor Michael Passero and Fire Chief Tom Curcio announce critical training on recently purchased (grant funded) emergency extrication equipment at Ocean Beach Park this month.

The New London Fire Department received an “Assistance to Firefighters” Grant in the amount of $415,954. This funding was used to update and expand the department’s rescue capabilities by purchasing new rescue equipment, as well as, the extensive mandatory training required to operate the new equipment. The Connecticut State Fire Academy is providing the extrication training to all of New London Fire Department members on the new equipment at Ocean Beach Park, and at Yales Junkyard in Montville on a variety of vehicles with the new equipment. The training consists of classroom instruction and on hands training both at Yales Junkyard and Ocean Beach Park.

Hours of training – 0800 - 1530
