New London’s Kris Dunn Selected By Timberwolves in NBA Draft

Dunn was selected by Minnesota, the number 5 overall pick.

New London’s Kris Dunn was the fifth overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday after being picked up by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Considered possibly the top guard in the draft, Dunn, 22, played at Providence and is one of the most experienced players available, according to the Hartford Courant. Dunn was embraced by his coach upon selection, and also wore a jacket that made tribute to his hometown.

Dunn is the highest draft pick from the state since Hartford’s Marcus Camby, who was picked up second in the 1996 draft by the Toronto Raptors, as reported by SportzEdge. He previously played for the New London High School team, where he was named the Connecticut High School Player of the Year for leading the Whalers to an undefeated season.

Though he was selected by the Timberwolves, there has been discussion between the team and the Chicago Bulls of a possible trade for Jimmy Butler, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Regardless of whether he stays in Minnesota or heads to Chicago, his proud showing of the Whalers stitching on his jacket shows that Dunn will always be from New London.
