New London Schools' Return Could Cost Millions: Report
The estimated cost of returning to school in New London is $2.5 million.
NEW LONDON, CT — New London schools are planning to return in the fall, but it's not going to be cheap—the current estimate is $2.5 million to implement measures that will prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to The Day. Costs include $200,000 to purchase masks for students and staff; $520,000 for school bus monitors; and a possible $800,000 for 10 new teachers, which will help to allow for smaller class sizes.
The funds will also be spent on training, extra janitorial staff, plastic shields, and other costs. However, the full range of costs is unknown.
For example, whether the district will purchase a $100,000 air mover to ensure clean air in the high school cafeteria has yet to be determined, according to The Day.
