New London's Custom House Maritime Museum Reopens This Weekend
Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, from 1 to 5 PM

The New London Maritime Society's (NLMS) Custom House Maritime Museum reopens to the public this weekend having been closed for 63 weeks, due to COVID-19. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, from 1 to 5 PM.
Prior to reopening, Eric Dillner, chair of the Shoreline Arts Alliance Charter Task Force, and
Dr. Sten H. Vermund, MD PhD, director of the Yale School of Public Health, conducted a site consultation at the Custom House Maritime Museum to review all safety protocols. Task Force guests were enthusiastic about plans, now in place at the museum, to reopen safely.
Per the Governor's guidelines, NLMS requests that everyone use hand sanitizer when entering the museum, and everyone continues to wear face masks. (Some of our younger visitors are not yet vaccinated and we'd like to ensure their safety.) All of our docents are fully-vaccinated. 'We can’t wait for our patrons to return, both to the museum and to the shop,' said NMS executive director Susan Tamulevich. Much of the Society's income comes from admission fees and museum shop sales. NLMS does not receive regular funding from any organization.

The Society's Frank L. McGuire Maritime Research Library is again open by appointment by calling 860-447-2501. NLMS's Local History & Landmarks program, a partnership with New London Public Schools and directed by Christina Corcoran, resumed in the spring; this year the program, which teaches New London history to third-grade students by visiting local history sites, was conducted via zoom.
