John Henshaw, executive director of the CT Port Authority, will be our speaker when the JIBBOOM CLUB#1 meets on Tuesday, July 20, at 1:30 PM.
At the Port Authority, Mr. Henshaw is responsible for fostering the
economic development of Connecticut’s maritime economy and overseeing
the development and growth of Connecticut’s small harbors and three
deepwater ports. John Henshaw came to the CPA after serving as the
executive director of the Maine Port Authority for over 10 years and
after serving as commissioner for the Board of Harbor Commissioners for
the Port of Portland.
NLMS online exhibitions librarian, Brian Rogers, will be the guest speaker at the Jibboom Club on Tuesday, August 17, at 1:30 PM. Brian will speak about his recently updated online exhibition Bringing the Ships to New London: A Tale of Two Piers, a history of the New London State Pier.

Brian Rogers writes, 'It is such great news that the west side of the CV Pier will not only be preserved, but will continue to serve the fishing industry. It's a wonderful combination: a successful preservation effort which has the side benefit of allowing the fishermen to stay on the NL waterfront.
'I'd like to think that the April conference with NL Landmarks and May meeting with me about preserving of the west side of the pier may have induced the Port Authority to take another look at the issue and realize that with a few more design changes (in addition to those they have already made) the CV pier can retain its utility as a fishing boat landing and not end up an isolated example of 19th century pier construction that few people will appreciate. It's a wonderful
development. And it is also good press for the CPA, which has been criticized for so long about the whole project.'
