Opening Day Looms for New London High School Teams

NEW LONDON, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and preseason scrimmages are in full swing, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at New London High School. For a complete season schedule of Whaler varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• boys soccer - Thursday, 9/6, at Fitch, 3:45 p.m.
• football - Friday, 9/7, vs. Capital Prep/Achievement First, 6:30 p.m.
• girls soccer - Saturday, 9/8, vs. Lyman Memorial, 11 a.m.
• girls volleyball - Monday, 9/10, vs. Griswold, 5:30 p.m.
• cross country - Tuesday, 9/11, vs. Wheeler and St. Bernard, TBA
