People don’t need to travel to Washington D.C. to see the Kwanza Cherry Trees. They need only to come to McCook Park this week to see the 10 trees in bloom. If you are really feeling nostalgic, search out the song by Perez Prado, “It’s Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White”. At the area of Cherry Lane in McCook Park, you will see both types of blooms.

One of the unique fundraisers for the East Lyme Public Trust Foundation has been this commemorative tree program which has made available to the public, trees to be placed in public spaces in East Lyme. In co-operation with the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department, the Foundation uses the profits raised by The Promise of Tomorrow’s Trees to support the Niantic Bay Boardwalk and other projects of the Trust.

June Hoye is the chairperson for the tree project in partnership with Dave Putnam, the Director of Parks and Recreation. Her committee includes Carol Marelli and Bill Rinoski-administration.
