In an effort to support a healthy community, the City of New London
began the Mayor’s Youth Fitness Initiative.
This year, C.B. Jennings Dual Language & International Magnet,
Winthrop STEM Magnet, Nathan Hale Arts Magnet, and Harbor Elementary schools
have formed after-school teams to learn about fitness and nutrition. These students will demonstrate their new
fitness skills and knowledge by participating in one or more multi-sport
races. The New London Recreation
Department is pleased to announce the first event, Proud to “DU” It youth
duathlon which will take place at the Fort Trumbull Neighborhood on Sunday,
April 29, 2018. With the help of the
Norwich Recreation and Ledyard Parks & Recreation, we hope to draw many
young participants to compete in a fun and amazing event. We know that physical activity as children
leads to a lifetime of good health.
Allowing children to experience a competition where they can get fit,
have fun, and challenge themselves is inspiring.
