Two Arrested For Car Break-Ins in New London

A local resident was able to call police with a description of two suspects who were arrested on December 18.

Sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on December 18, a concerned citizen observed men breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of 281 Gardner Avenue in New London and called 911. The caller was able to provide descriptions of the suspects and the direction they headed toward. 

Police officers from New London's uniform patrol division responded and observed two men fitting the description given by the witness walking north on Ocean Avenue at Pacific Street. Police apprehended the suspects and were able to recover evidence linking them to the robberies. 

One of the victims said a Dell laptop and about $80 had been taken. Further investigation revealed that second car break-in had occurred at 51 Mansfield Road, in which an Apple laptop and a small amount of cash had been stolen. All property has been returned to the victims and the suspects have been arrested.

Joseph Allen, 20, of 103 Truman Street, New London, was charged with two counts of burglary in the second degree, larceny 4th and 5th. He was held on a $15,000 bond. He was also charged with two counts of failure to appear in the first degree for which he faced a $30,000 bond. 

Taj Johnson, 19, of 23 Chappel Street, New London, was charged with two counts of burglary in the third degree, larceny 4th, larceny 5th, and possession of a deadly weapon (brass knuckles). He was held on $15,000 bond. 

New London Police urge all residents to lock their vehicles and secure all valuables in their homes.
