Winter Storm Watch Issued For New London

With snow expected Thursday into Friday, a winter storm watch has been issued for New London.

NEW LONDON, CT — A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for northern and southern New London County from midnight on Thursday, Jan. 4, through midnight on Friday, Jan. 5, according to the National Weather Service.

As much as six inches of snow or more could fall in the area during the period, and heavy winds are also expected.

THURSDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including the morning and evening commute on Thursday. Total snow accumulations of 6 or more inches are possible.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast Connecticut and Suffolk County on Long Island.

* WHEN...From late Wednesday night through Thursday evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind gusts between 30 to 40 mph are possible. This may result in blowing and drifting of snow. Significant reductions in visibility are possible.

Snow likely, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 23. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Light and variable wind becoming northeast 6 to 11 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday

Snow. High near 30. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Thursday Night

Snow likely, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Partly sunny and cold, with a high near 15. Breezy.
