New London Police said a 46-year-old woman allegedly tried to take a middle school student's cell phone.

New London Police responded to the area of the Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School to investigate the report of a "suspicious incident" involving an adult woman and middle school student.

At approximately 7:47 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, a student was walking in the area of Blackhall Street and West Coit Street in New London when a woman approached him.

"Upon investigation, police learned that the adult female, unknown to the student, grabbed the student by the arm as they walked past her and attempted to steal the cell phone the student had in their hand,” New London Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard said.

"The student was not physically injured during the incident,” police said.

Based on the description provided by the student, police were able to locate the suspect in the near vicinity of the incident.
