2 Catholic Schools in Shelton and Monroe to Close: Report

Students will be moved to another school in Shelton under a consolidation plan from the Roman Catholic Diocese in Bridgeport.

SHELTON, CT — The Roman Catholic Diocese in Bridgeport announced Friday that it will close the St. Joseph and St. Jude schools in Shelton and Monroe, respectively, next year and transfer those students to another school in Shelton, reports the Connecticut Post.

The move is part of a consolidation plan the diocese has come up with to deal with a drop in financing and declining enrollment. The students will move to St. Lawrence School in Shelton, which is expected to be renamed in the future.

Parents were informed of the plan during a meeting Friday with Bishop Frank J. Caggiano of the dicocese, who said he anticipates the new academy to have about 240 students and a tuition rate of $6,000 for an individual student, according to the publication.
