3 Killed, Including Toddler, In Crash On Route 34 In Seymour

Part of Route 34 was closed for several hours, according to police.

SEYMOUR, CT — Three people were killed in a head-on crash on Route 34 in Seymour near the Derby city line on Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.

Connecticut News 12 reports two women and a toddler were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened around 10 p.m. on Route 34 near Argonne Terrace.

The three were in a vehicle heading east on Route 34 when the driver failed to take a curve and crashed head-on with another car heading in the opposite direction, according to Connecticut News 12.

NBC Connecticut reports the driver of the other car was hospitalized with injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate and said speed is considered to be a factor in the crash, according to NBC Connecticut.

Route 34 in Seymour was closed between the Derby city line and Route 188 for several hours because of the crash, according to Seymour police.

Police said the road reopened around 7:40 a.m. on Thursday.

The Office of Seymour First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis released the following statement on Facebook:

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and victims of the fatal car crash that happened last night.

"To our First Responders, the past few months our town has been hit hard. Please know the Officials of this town and the residents appreciate all you do. We understand the amount of pressure and stress you are all under in these unusual circumstances, your efforts do not go unnoticed. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication in your respective fields."
