Derby Girls Win State Cross Country Championship
A runner from Shelton High School also fared very well at the CIAC class meets Friday at Wickham Park.

MANCHESTER, CT — A pair of top 5 finishes enabled Derby High School to capture the Class S team title in the CIAC girls cross country championships Friday at Wickham Park.
The Red Raiders compiled 89 points to edge runner-up Shepaug Valley, which had 98. The title is Derby's second in the past three years.
Cassidy Ngaopraseutsac led Derby with a fourth-place finish, just ahead of teammate Sabrina Hanock, while Isabelle Chevarella placed 20th.

In Class LL boys competition, Robert Dillon of Shelton wound up third, leading the Gaels to a fourth-place team showing.
The top two teams and 12 individuals from each class advance to the State Open, scheduled for Nov. 2, also at Wickham Park.
