Derby Man Accused Of Murder In Woodbridge: State's Attorney
The body of Rondell Atkinson, 33, was found on June 8 near the Pease Road Playground/Alegi Athletic Fields in Woodbridge.
DERBY, CT — A 24-year-old Derby man was arrested on a warrant charging him with murder and robbery in the death of West Haven resident Rondell Atkinson, 33, in Woodbridge last month, according to New Haven State's Attorney Patrick Griffin.
Jordan M. Rudel, of Caroline Street, was charged with felony murder, murder, and first-degree robbery, and is currently in custody in lieu of bail of $2 million. His next court appearance, which will be in Part A in New Haven, is scheduled for July 13.
Atkinson’s body was discovered by a jogger on June 8 on the sidewalk adjacent to Pease Road Playground/Alegi Athletic Fields in Woodbridge. Investigators quickly determined that Atkinson had been shot multiple times and his car had been stolen.

Details of the Rudel's arrest were not disclosed.
State’s Attorney Griffin commended the investigation conducted by the Woodbridge Police Department and the State Police Central District Major Crimes Squad.

Additionally, Griffin reminded people that at this time, the charges against Rudel "are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."
