Derby PD Working To ID Route 34 Crash Victim

Police are working to identify a male who was killed in a Route 34 crash Sunday.

DERBY, CT — Police continue to investigate the fatal Sunday crash that closed Route 34 in Derby for several hours.

The crash occurred around 11:14 a.m. on Roosevelt Drive (Route 34) near Pinkhouse Cove. A westbound vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into an eastbound vehicle, police said. The vehicle that crossed over caught fire and the sole occupant died.

The other vehicle operator was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and has since been released, police said.

Detectives are working to identify the male deceased operator. He was driving a red Honda Civic with possible after-market modifications. The vehicle identification number came back as being registered to a prior owner.
