Derby Residents Can Upgrade To New LED Bulbs

SHELTON-DERBY, CT - From Energize Connecticut: More than 730 ENERGY STAR® LED light bulbs were distributed for free to Ansonia and Derby residents during a special event at the Derby Home Depot August 26. This was the first of two light bulb exchanges taking place as part of Weatherization Month, a special energy efficiency celebration occurring this October through the Energize Connecticut initiative.

Attendees traded their old incandescent light bulbs for four ENERGY STAR bulbs, and anyone who registered for Home Energy SolutionsSM received four additional bulbs. More than 180 households were represented and residents will save approximately $390 or 1,964 kilowatt-hours (kWh) over the lifetime of each bulb. This will generate an estimated total savings of $72,300 for the two cities, or more than $9,000 per year.

Those who missed their first opportunity can attend the next light bulb exchange on September 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Derby Home Depot (117 Main St.) The mailed program postcard, or another valid proof of residence, must be presented to participate. Those who have already exchanged are not eligible to exchange but can take advantage of deeper incentives on select packs of LED bulbs at Home Depot in the week prior to and after the event.
