Spring is a season of hope and that is exactly what DiMatteo Group Financial Services in Shelton delivered along with a big dose of help to three area shelters.

A total of 75 Easter baskets were distributed to shelters in Norwalk and Stamford. The baskets were full of a variety of hygiene products, including deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, and mouthwash.

Easter baskets were dropped off at the following shelters in Fairfield County: 15 baskets to Open Door Shelter, Inc. and 20 baskets to Domestic Violence Crisis Center, both located in Norwalk, and 40 baskets to Inspirica, Inc. in Stamford. Each basket was filled with age-appropriate necessities specifically for children age birth to 2, 3 to 12, and 13 and up.

Over 20 years ago, DiMatteo Group started this annual companywide and family tradition to aid homeless children. Since its inception, over 2,000 baskets have helped thousands of area children in need.

Specifically, Bethany residents John DiMatteo, President of DiMatteo Group Financial Services and his wife Kim DiMatteo, now Senior Vice President of ACBI Insurance in Shelton, involved their three young children, Anthony, Michael and Jessica plus other employees, friends and clients.

Now, Jessica DiMatteo, a newly hired Financial Assistant at DiMatteo Group Financial Services, has spearheaded this year’s successful drive. As a third generation family member, she added a new twist to this year’s campaign. She requested that the community at large get more involved by ordering preselected items from an Amazon list and then shipping them directly to their Shelton office. Twenty good Samaritans contributed to this worthwhile cause, while seven family and friends volunteered to assemble everything.

Special thanks to the following outstanding volunteers who worked with Jessica DiMatteo: her mom, Kim DiMatteo, founder of the Easter Basket Drive and her brother Anthony DiMatteo; along with other Bethany residents Lucia Cusano and Cindy Smith. Kim LaChance of Prospect and Nicole Kelley of Guilford also lent a helping hand.

“All in all, this program has lit lanterns in dark situations,” said Jessica DiMatteo. “When my parents started this community outreach project, we did not foresee the program becoming so successful year after year. Our countless hours of planning and preparation are so much appreciated by the shelters and the recipients alike. It’s a great feeling to know that we are spreading so much kindness and supporting children in need.”

DiMatteo Group supports many other local charities through the DiMatteo Family Charitable Foundation. The Foundation was established over 15 years ago as a tribute to its founder and late father and grandfather Anthony “Tony” DiMatteo, who was battling cancer at the time. Since then, the Foundation has contributed over $412,000 for various well-known local and national charities that fund research, education and finding a cure for diseases.
