Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?

Kusick: Investmark is an amazing group to work with! We’ve been an independent firm for over 35 years and are very grateful for the wonderful relationships we have with our clients, many of whom have been with us for over 20 years. We are extremely proud of our team’s dedication to understanding each client’s unique needs and finding appropriate, effective strategies to help pursue their goals.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Kusick: Investmark was created as an alternative to the Wall Street “wirehouse” mentality. We wanted to give people a way to pursue greater wealth without having to meet sales quotas or push proprietary products. We wanted to be free to select from the full universe of investment options to design portfolios that perfectly suited each client. With this in mind, we were also early adopters of the fee-based investing approach, which aligns our interests with the client’s — in other words, “We do better when you do better.” I thought this was a home run for the clients and really enabled advisors to completely focus on what’s best for the client, which makes it a lot more enjoyable and fulfilling to be an advisor.
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Kusick: Relentlessly pursue our clients’ goals.
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Kusick: We’ve guided our clients through some of the most "interesting" times in the markets over the last few decades. In the short-term, the markets always see some level of volatility, but we take a longer-term approach and a philosophy that tends toward smoothing out the effects of that volatility for our clients so they can feel more confident and comfortable about their lives and their goals. While we certainly have seen some challenging times, we had prepared for them and they were relatively short-lived. It was truly gratifying to help clients keep a realistic perspective and see how the strategies we designed helped in these challenging times. Knowing that our guidance and advice could really help make an important difference in our clients’ lives is what makes this a truly rewarding profession.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Kusick: I’d have to say that I really am exceptionally proud of the team we’ve put together. Every person in our office plays an important role for our clients’ experience with Investmark, and I couldn’t be happier with the positive comments I get about them. Knowing that I can rely on them to provide top-notch, effective, personalized service allows me to focus on what’s really important for our clients.
Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
Kusick: I’ve always been a great fan of Vince Lombardi. His drive for success, the importance of having a great team and staying 100 percent focused on the goal has been a guiding light for me in my career. We sometimes like to say that we can be your financial quarterback, but I really aspire to be the financial Vince Lombardi!
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?
Kusick: Over the last five years or so, we’ve been developing our ReInsuranceMax program, which offers automotive dealers an effective way to utilize assets to increase their business valuation and provide owners with additional investment opportunities via a specialized platform that addresses concerns specific to that industry. It’s been exciting to grow this new business and the experience and knowledge we’ve gained there also helped our individual clients.
