Man Killed In Fiery Crash On Route 8 In Shelton
A man has died after a fiery crash that closed part of Route 8 in Shelton on Thursday, according to police.

SHELTON, CT — A Bridgeport man has died after a fiery crash that closed part of Route 8 in Shelton on Thursday, according to Connecticut State Police.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. about one mile north of Exit 12 on Route 8 South in Shelton. The driver, identified as 46-year-old Demar K. Thompson of Bridgeport, lost control of his 2002 Range Rover and veered left off the road, down an embankment and struck a tree, according to police.
At the time of the investigation, it was raining during the day and the road was wet with moderate traffic that was moving at a steady flow, police said.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found the vehicle was “heavily involved in fire,” according to fire officials.
“The occupant of the vehicle was being tended to by bystanders,” officials wrote in a news release. “Crews from Squad 1 arrived and quickly suppressed the fire as EMS and other fire units performed CPR on the victim.

“Echo Hose Ambulance transported the victim to a local trauma facility while conducting CPR and advanced life support efforts.”
Thompson was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Trooper Norton at 203-393-4200 or taylor.norton@ct.gov. Police are also asking anyone who was driving through the area at the time of the crash and might have footage recorded on a dashboard camera to contact Norton.
