Powerlifting Event In Connecticut Draws Entries From 5 States

DERBY, CT — Men and women ranging in age from 16 to 56 and hailing from across Connecticut plus four other states converged on Gleason Performance Training in Derby Saturday for the USA Powerlifting Connecticut Veteran's Day Meet and Bench Press Championships.

Owner Ryan Gleason and his staff welcomed athletes from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and California (by way of Wesleyan University in Middletown) to the event, which offered competitors the opportunity to perform three lifts each in the squat, bench press and deadlift. A level playing field is provided by utilizing a scoring system created by the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), which factors in total weight lifted and lifters' body weights.
