Seymour Bakery Temporarily Closes Due To Deployment

The owner of a Seymour bakery will be deploying overseas with the Connecticut National Guard.

SEYMOUR, CT — Wildflour Confections in Seymour will be closed for an indeterminate amount of time as owner Alyssa DeMatteo will be deploying overseas with the Connecticut National Guard, according to The Connecticut Post. She opened the store on Bank Street in downtown in 2015.

DeMatteo wrote in a Facebook post: "However, the uncertainty that Covid-19 has brought to our economy paired with my upcoming overseas deployment with the Connecticut National Guard has lead me to believe that while being the most difficult, it is also the best decision for the time being. While I knew enlisting would lead to sacrifice I’d have to make at some point, I think we can all agree that this pandemic hit harder than we could ever have imagined. I have said in a previous post that my heart beats for Wildflour but my blood runs red, white and blue. This is still the sincerest truth."

She added that she will return in 2022 and emphasized that the shop isn't closing.

"This is NOT the end of Wildflour Confections, just this chapter," she wrote.

DeMatteo wrote that when she set out at 23 to open a bakery, many people told her she had "completely lost my mind." The same thing happened when she enlisted in the Army.

"This little shop has given me immense pride and some of the greatest times of my life that I will always hold close to my heart-not to mention some of my truest and dearest friends. Wildflour and the Infantry will forever be the greatest accomplishments of my life. Both a total risk, both a little out of reach, both the utmost rewarding."
