Shelton-Based BIC Joins Fight Against Coronavirus

The company is manufacturing personal protective equipment and has donated supplies to hospitals and other organizations.

SHELTON, CT — Shelton-based BIC is helping in the fight against the new coronavirus by manufacturing personal protective equipment and donating other supplies.

BIC converted some of their manufacturing facilities to produce face shields for healthcare workers. Up to 3,000 are made daily at its main lighter facility in France.

“As a global company with thousands of team members in communities around the world, we strongly believe that we have the opportunity – and the responsibility – to make a meaningful contribution to our communities during this global health crisis,” said BIC CEO Gonzalve Bich.

BIC is also working with researchers, engineers and doctors to make an adaptor that would turn full-face snorkeling masks into PPE.

In the U.S. the company has given 11,000 Flex 5 razors to hospitals in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Clean-shaven faces are required for PPE to work effectively.

The company is also donating up to 1.5 million pencils through the Kids In Need Foundation. It has also made free coloring pages, memory games and other activities available on its website to help keep kids entertained at home.
