Shelton/Derby Coronavirus Update: Cases And Vaccinations

Here are Shelton and Derby's recent coronavirus infection rates and how many residents have been vaccinated.

SHELTON, CT — Coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have been trending down in Connecticut over the past few weeks.

Connecticut had 36.1 daily average cases per 100,000 population between Jan. 24 and Feb. 6 — that’s the lowest two-week average since early November.

Shelton recorded 79 new coronavirus cases between Feb. 4 and 10. There have been 2,851 cases recorded since the pandemic began and 162 coronavirus-deaths, according to the state Department of Public Health.

Shelton had 31.3 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between Jan. 24 and Feb. 6 and a positive test rate of 5.00 percent. There were 23.8 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period. It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.

Derby recorded 20 new coronavirus cases between Feb. 4 and 10. There have been 901 cases recorded since the pandemic began and 13 coronavirus-deaths.

Derby had 24 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between Jan. 24 and Feb. 6 and a positive test rate of 4.40 percent. There were 34.8 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period.

Vaccines

The state opened vaccination appointments for people between 65 and 74 years old on Thursday.

Shelton had 5,510 first doses administered as of Feb. 11. About 13.40 percent of town residents have received at least one dose and 69.82 percent of residents 75 and older have received at least one dose.

Derby had 1,144 first doses administered as of Feb. 11. About 9.27 percent of town residents have received at least one dose and 42.54 percent of residents 75 and older have received at least one dose.
