Shelton & Derby Coronavirus Vaccine Rates
Residents of both communities continue to get vaccinated. Here is how the last week went.

SHELTON & DERBY, CT — Connecticut continues to make good progress in the coronavirus vaccination race, but some infection hot spots have cropped up in the state.
About 55 percent of residents 16 and older have received at least one vaccine dose as of Thursday. Seniors have been especially keen to get the vaccine; nearly nine out of every 10 residents 65 and older has received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health.
About a third of residents between the ages of 16 and 44 have been vaccinated and demand continues to be strong in the age group. General eligibility opened up on April 1.

Shelton had 21,621 first doses administered as of April 14, while Derby had 5,017. About 52.57 percent of Shelton residents have received at least one dose, compared to Derby's 40.66 percent, according to the state Department of Public Health preliminary data. There were 3188 new dose administrations reported among Shelton residents between April 7 and 14, and 886 in Derby during the same period.

Connecticut’s infection rate has settled around an average of 30 daily cases per 100,000 residents. Hot spots are starting to appear in the state, mainly in the Naugatuck Valley.
Shelton recorded 98 new coronavirus cases between April 7 and 14, Derby 23, according to the state Department of Public Health’s preliminary data. There have been 3589 cases recorded in Shelton since the pandemic began and 175 coronavirus deaths; Derby has had 1218 coronavirus cases and 16 deaths.
Shelton had 30.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between March 28 and April 10 and a positive test rate of 6.30 percent; Derby's numbers were 35.4 and 5.30. There were 30.2 average daily cases per 100,000 Shelton residents in the previous two-week reporting period, and 59.9 per 100,000 average among Derby residents.
It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
