Shelton & Derby Full Coronavirus Vaccinations, Case Rates

Vaccine demand has waned in Connecticut. Here is how many Shelton and Derby residents are vaccinated.

SHELTON & DERBY, CT — Coronavirus vaccine demanded has waned in recent weeks for Connecticut residents, but case rates are beginning to drop now that more than two-thirds of the adult population is vaccinated.

Seniors have been especially keen to get the vaccine; about nine out of every 10 residents 65 and older has received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health.

In Shelton 15,910 residents have been fully vaccinated as of April 28 — which is about 39 percent of the population — in total 54 percent of the town population has received at least one dose, according to DPH.

For Derby, 3,733 residents have been fully vaccinated as of the same date — which is about 30 percent of the population — in total 46 percent of the town population has received at least one dose.

Connecticut’s infection rate is starting to drop again after being on the rise for about a month. There were 22.1 average daily cases per 100,000 population between April 11 and 24. The rate was above 30 just a couple of weeks ago.

Shelton recorded 59 new coronavirus cases between April 21 and 28 according to DPH’s preliminary data; Derby, 17. There have been 3,722 cases recorded in Shelton since the pandemic began and 174 coronavirus deaths. In Derby, 1,262 cases have been recorded since the pandemic began, and the number of deaths totaled 17.

Shelton had 25.4 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 11 and 24 and a positive test rate of 5.20 percent. There were 26.1 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period.

Derby had 30.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 11 and 24 and a positive test rate of 5.90 percent. Additionally, there were 30.2 average daily cases per 100,000 Derby residents in the previous two-week reporting period.

It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
