Some Bathrooms Remain Closed At Shelton PD HQ

The police union and department leadership have had a disagreement over the use of bathrooms and lockerooms for patrol officers.

SHELTON, CT — Shelton Police Department's headquarters is open to all officers and the public, but some bathrooms remain closed. The bathroom and locker room closure set off a controversy within the department after portable toilets were installed at headquarters for patrol officers.

Officers who are summoned to headquarters by supervisors can use the bathrooms otherwise they have to request permission from a supervisor, according to the Shelton Herald. Officers can change in single-occupancy bathrooms.

The department launched an investigation after some officers were seen changing clothes in public. The police union decried the decision.
