Suspect Arrested In Shelton Bank Robbery: Police
A 36-year-old Guilford man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday.
SHELTON, CT — An arrest has been made in the robbery of a People's United Bank on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton earlier this month, according to Shelton Police Det. Christopher Nugent.
Guilford resident Kevin Kelly, 36, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday and was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree larceny.
According to police, on May 4, Kelly handed a teller at the bank a note demanding money, and he implied that he had a firearm. He fled in an orange Hyundai Tuscan SUV with no license plates; how much money, if any, he stole was not disclosed.

Shelton Police disseminated images of the suspect and vehicle to the public and surrounding law enforcement agencies, and within hours Kelly became a suspect.
"On 05/04/2021 at approximately 6:30 PM Undercover New Haven Police Officers observed a Hyundai Tucson, Color Orange, in their city," Nugent wrote on Facebook. "New Haven Police made contact with the operator, Kevin Kelly, age 36, of Guilford, who was taken into custody on unrelated charges."

Shelton police obtained an arrest warrant for Kelly and took him into custody Tuesday at Derby Superior Court.
He was held in lieu of bail of $250,000 and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Shelton police reminds the public that its release contains mere accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
