Where Did Shelton's Ancestors Come From?
An analysis by the Connecticut Mirror broke down ancestry by town.
Italy is the predominant country of ancestry in Connecticut, according to an analysis of the American Community Survey by the Connecticut Mirror.
According to the Mirror, 18.8 percent of Connecticut residents say their ancestors arrived from Italy. Ireland comes in at second place with 16 percent of residents having Irish roots.
Residents with German ancestry account for 9.6 percent of the population while those with English ancestry account for 9.2 percent of the population.

In Shelton, the predominant country of ancestry is Italy, with 30.2 percent of residents having Italian roots. According to the Mirror, this is no surprise as Italians tended to settle around New Haven and Fairfield Counties.
Descendant of Irish immigrants tend to dominate the rest of the state. Another interesting fact noted by the Mirror is the French influence in the northeast corner of the state.
